October 15th-19th

This week students focused on exploring the electro magnetic spectrum. They began the week by creating a foldable on Light Color Vocabulary terms. After they finished they had to create and color a color wheel.

Students then looked at the video NASA: Tour of the Electromagnetic Spectrum and filled out a worksheet for their notes.

Students then had to research the use and dangers for each electromagnetic radiation they looked at
Radio waves, Microwaves, Infrared waves, Visible light, Ultraviolet waves, X rays and Gamma rays.

The last task of the week was to create a foldable on the Models of Light - Particle Model, Ray Model and Wave Model . For each section they needed to complete a definition, example and diagram

Students explored simple machines and the uses of simple machines in complex machines. They had to complete a Rube Goldberg cartoon which was due Monday, April. 15th.  Students then investigated Work, Mechanical Advantage, Speed Ratio, and Efficiency. Thursday April 18th they completed a topic 1-3 quiz.  Students will begin looking at Force and Pressure when they are back from the long weekend.  If students completed all in class work than there is no homework over the long weekend.

November 26th - 30th

Students had the opportunity to watch the film Tim's Vermeer.  Tim that looks at the paintings of Dutch Renaissance artist Vermeer and tries to prove that Vermeer used light and optics in order to create his paintings.  From this students had to complete two reflection questions and hand them in.  1.      Art and science are often seen as being vastly separate fields of study. Does this movie convince you that this distance between them is far closer than usually thought? Why? Why not? 2.  What light and optical devices and methods was Tim saying that Vermeer was using? For the Mix and Flow of Matter Unit students handed in their S olid, Liquid and Gasses Foldable on Monday, November 26th. Students then explored pure substances and mixtures by looking at the video " The Science of a Macaroni Salad." From this students completed a booklet for their notes. This should have been finished by Monday, December 3rd ....

January 28th -31st

Students had class time to complete the project " Cell Organelle Superhero Trading Cards" that are due Monday, January, 4th.   Link to the assignment and rubric can be found under the Cells and Systems section of the blog. Students moved onto a Cell Theory   research project in which they created a powerpoint including research of the Scientists who contributed to the Cell Theory.  The project and rubric can be found under the Cells and Systems section of the blog. Project is due Tuesday, January 5th.
