January 28th -31st

Students had class time to complete the project " Cell Organelle Superhero Trading Cards" that are due Monday, January, 4th.   Link to the assignment and rubric can be found under the Cells and Systems section of the blog. Students moved onto a Cell Theory   research project in which they created a powerpoint including research of the Scientists who contributed to the Cell Theory.  The project and rubric can be found under the Cells and Systems section of the blog. Project is due Tuesday, January 5th.

January 21st- 25th

This week students explored the functions of the different organelles in both plant and animal cells. They created/labelled a foldable with the characteristics and definitions of the different organelles ( cell wall, cell membrane, nucleus, vacuole, chloroplast, and cytoplasm). The details for this foldable can be found on the Cells and Systems page of this blog.         Once completed, students started a project called " Organelle Superhero Trading Cards". In this project students are creating a Superhero for the different organelles. Details can be found on the Cells and Systems page of this blog.  Monday, January 28th will be the class class students have to work on the project. January 14th - 18th

This week students worked on the " Exquisite Corpse" project. Students created drawings of creatures where one student drew the head, a different student drew the torso, and another student drew the feet. They could not see what the other students drew. Once they got their drawings back they needed to complete stories the incorporated the 7 characteristics of living things:  movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion, and nutrition. I3  ( I-Cubed)  Every Friday students are working through on a cross-curricular project called I-Cubed. Through this project students will be exploring the design process and creating and marketing their own inventions/innovations. Students have been exploring the difference between an innovation, invention, and a discovery. Task 1 is due Friday, January 25th  Task on

January 8th - 11th

Welcome Back! This week students began the unit Cells and Systems. We discussed the 7 characteristics of living things and students had to complete an assignment called " Is a Candle Alive?". The write up for the assignment is due on Monday, January 14th if it was not completed in class.  The assignment is available on the Cells and Systems page of this blog.
