January 8th - 11th

Welcome Back!

This week students began the unit Cells and Systems. We discussed the 7 characteristics of living things and students had to complete an assignment called " Is a Candle Alive?". The write up for the assignment is due on Monday, January 14th if it was not completed in class.  The assignment is available on the Cells and Systems page of this blog. On this page you can also find the " I Can..." statements, assignments, review, notes and extra practice.

September 24th-27th

This week students looked at What is light? by completing various activities.  They worked on a worksheet called What is Light and created a foldable that had to include the different sources of light, definitions, examples, pros/cons. Sources of Light: Incandescent, Chemiluminescent. Fluorescent, Bioluminescent and Phosphorescent. Students also looked at objects to determine if they were Opaque, Translucent or Transparent and had to record their observations in a table. Any worksheets can be found by going to the top-left drop down bar and going into the Light and Optics unit page.

October 29th- November 1st

On Monday students had the lesson to finish their Comparing Eyes Project to Start their Optical Technology Research Project. Comparing Eyes Project is due Monday, November 5th  and needs to be handed in with their self-assessment rubric found on the instruction sheet Optical Technologies Research Project will be due Thursday, November 8th  in which they will be presenting in small groups. They will have time to work on their projects next week. On Tuesday October 30th we had had studio artist Mark Vazquez-Mackay work with students to create their own pinhole cameras. On Wednesday October 31st Students went outside and took pictures with their pinhole cameras and completed an experiment with these pictures.

April 8th -18th

Students explored simple machines and the uses of simple machines in complex machines. They had to complete a Rube Goldberg cartoon which was due Monday, April. 15th.  Students then investigated Work, Mechanical Advantage, Speed Ratio, and Efficiency. Thursday April 18th they completed a topic 1-3 quiz.  Students will begin looking at Force and Pressure when they are back from the long weekend.  If students completed all in class work than there is no homework over the long weekend.
